Masculinity = social expectations of being a man
The word 'masculinity' describes the expected roles, behaviours, and traits for boys and men in a particular society.

AHMED ALI: “Men are the support of women as God gives some more means than others, and because they spend of their wealth (to provide for them). So women who are virtuous are obedient to God and guard the hidden as God has guarded it.

In society, there's often a belief that men need to fulfil certain expectations and take on leadership roles, even when they might not feel up to it. This pressure stems from the idea that if men don't step up and lead, it could lead to disorder or chaos in the world.

The idea that men need to perform and assume leadership roles, regardless of how they feel, is based on several factors:

  1. Power and Control: The belief that men should lead is tied to notions of power and control. Leadership is seen as a way to maintain order, stability, and progress. When men are viewed as capable leaders, it is assumed that they can guide society in the right direction and prevent chaos.

  2. Social Expectations and Pressure: Society often expects men to conform to these traditional roles, and deviating from them can lead to societal judgment, questioning of one's masculinity, or a sense of failure. Men might feel pressured to meet these expectations to gain approval, respect, and acceptance.

  3. Fear of Chaos and Instability: The fear that without strong male leadership, there may be disorder or chaos is deeply ingrained. This fear is often driven by historical examples or assumptions that a lack of authoritative figures can result in societal breakdown or unrest.
